Mode Of Action

Anabolic / androgenic steroid

Drug Indication Anaemia caused by deficient RBC production e.g. acquired aplastic or congenital anaemia.
Precautions Cardiac/hepatic/renal impairment; epilepsy; migraine; skeletal metastasis; diabetes mellitus.
Contra-Indications Prostate cancer; pregnancy and lactation; porphyria; severe cardiac/hepatic/renal impairment.
Side Effects Virilism; bladder irritability; breast soreness; gynaecomastia; priapism; anaemia; iron deficiency; oedema; gastric irritation; hepatic dysfunction; suppression of clotting factors; prostatic carcinoma or prostatic hyperplasia; hepatic necrosis; hepatocellular carcinoma; peliosis hepatis; acne; chills; decrease or increase in libido; diarrhea; feeling of abdominal or stomach fullness; muscle cramps; trouble in sleeping; in males there is decreased sexual ability.
Dosage Children and adults: 1-5 mg/kg per day. Usual effective dose: 1-2 mg/kg/day (but higher doses may be required and the dose should be individualized).
